Marathon is a long distance foot race with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers. Pheidippides ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the assembly, exclaiming "ΝΕΝΙΚΗΚΑΜΕΝ" (We have won.) before collapsing and dying.
