Marathon is a long distance foot race with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers. The name Marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek messenger, who was sent from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce that Greeks won Persians in the battle of Marathon, in which he had just fought. Pheidippides ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the assembly, exclaiming "ΝΕΝΙΚΗΚΑΜΕΝ" (We have won.) before collapsing and dying.

A copper bar, which is believed that it was the Sumerian Nippur cubit, found by the German Assyriologist Eckhard Unger during the WWI in 1916 at Nippur. This cubit is 518.616 mm with an assumed error of 1%.
