S., in 1836 the United States Department of the Treasury formally adopted the Winchester bushel as the standard for dealing in grain defining this unit equal to 2150.42 cubic inches or 32 dry U.S. quarts or about 35.2 liters. This is the regular U.S. bushel, also called struck, or level bushel.
